FAM ex-co approves Pasuwa hiring
It ’s now official . Football Association of Malawi (FAM) executive committee (ex-co) has approved the hiring of Kallisto Pasuwa as Flames coach.
This follows the ex-co’s first quarter meeting held at Sunbird Mzuzu Hotel on Saturday.

FAM technical subcommittee proposed the hiring of Pasuwa a week ago.
ex-co went on to approve the proposal and FAM will now offer the Zimbabwean tactician the job.
He said: “There wasn’t much to talk about as the ex co welcomed the technical subcommittee’s proposal 100 percent.”
However, the association will have to keep fingers crossed if the coach will accept the offer, considering that the Ministry of Youth and Sports advised them to follow government salary scale.
The ministry told our sister newspaper Weekend Nation last Saturday that it is ready to fund the next Malawi National Football Team coach’s remuneration provided it should fall under government salary and benefits’ structures.
According to the 2024 Malawi Civil Service Salary Structure, Grade A, which is the highest paid position in the public service, attracts about K44.8 million per annum, translating to about K3.7 million per month.
However, immediate-past Flames coach Patrick Mabedi was getting about K12 million.
On the other, Pasuwa was getting K13 million at FCB Nyasa Bullets before he left at the beginning of the year.
FAM general secretary Alfred Gunda was on Saturday not available for comment on the coach’s hiring.
But the source said FAM is expected to source funds to top up what government is willing to pay the coach.
The position of Flames coach fell vacant after the termination of Mabedi’s contract following the Flames’ poor run in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers which saw them losing five consecutive matches.
He was replaced by Pasuwa in an interim capacity.
Under his tutelage, Malawi bagged four points in their last two matches after holding Burundi to a goalless draw before thumping Burkina Faso 3-0 at home.
