Financial hiccups delay BT Synod radio roll-out

Blantyre Synod of the CCAP has attributed delays in opening of its radio station to financial hiccups.

Early this week, Nation on Sunday sought updates from the Church authorities on when the station will start operating.

In his response, the Synod general secretary (GS), Reverend Alex Maulana, said the synod has a deficit of K35 million.

Maulana explained that the Church had estimated a budget of K65 million, but the congregation has not managed to raise this amount.

However, the GS indicated that the radio may be on air anytime between July and August depending on how soon the equipment arrives in the country.

“We have already procured the equipment. What remains is to get it and install. Apart from the equipment, everything is set; we have built and furnished the studio, developed programmes and oriented our staff,” he said.

Last Sunday, Nthemba CCAP moderator Reverend Paul Mawaya pleaded with his flock, which has raised about K450 000 to meet the K1 million target as its contribution to the radio project.
