First Lady gets continental honour
Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (Oaflad) on Sunday honoured the First Lady Monica Chakwera for her dedicated services and invaluable contributions to the continental body.
The First Lady was given the honour yesterday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, during the closing session of the five-day 29th General Assembly for Oaflad.

Chakwera was recognised in her capacity as Oaflad Steering Committee member from 2022 to 2024.
She has, however, retained the same role for another two-year tenure ending in 2027 through an election which took place on Saturday to usher in the new leadership.
First Lady of Sierra Leone Fatima Maada Bio was elected Oaflad president, replacing Namibia’s First Lady Monica Geingos.
“Through your dedication and collaborative spirit, you have made a lasting impact on our work and communities we serve.,” reads an Oaflad certificate of recognition presented to Chakwera by the incoming president Bio.
In an interview, Chakwera said she was deeply honoured with the recognition as well as her re-election into the Oaflad, pledging to continue steering the committee and Oaflad’s governance efforts.
