One of the commercial banks in the country, FMB has committed K2 million in support of Stewart Kambewa who plans to cycle  in a fundraiser for this year’s Nation Publication Limited Mothers’ Fun Run initiative.

Addressing the media on Thursday in Blantyre when presenting the cheque at their offices, head of transactional banking Ewen Hiwa said the bank feels honoured to “stand behind one of their own” for the wellbeing of mothers.

Kambewa is an FMB employee but is largely known for his cycling exploits.

He plans to raise K20 million as he rides from Chileka Roundabout through the 311-kilometer distance to Lilongwe on September 8 this year.

Meanwhile, the cyclist has appealed to other corporate entities and individuals to help him attain the target by, among others, sponsoring any of his five checkpoints that include Zalewa, Chingeni, Ntcheu, Dedza and finally Lilongwe.

Proceeds for this year’s Mothers’ Fun Run will go towards promoting safe motherhood, which aims at cutting neonatal and maternal deaths in Ntchisi district.
