Govt pledges housing for security officers
Minister of Homeland Security Ezekiel Ching’oma has reaffirmed government’s commitment to improving housing conditions for security officers.
He said safe and modern accommodation is essential for the effective delivery of public security services.

The minister said this in Parliament yesterday in response to concerns raised by members of Parliament (MPs) regarding the deteriorating state of staff houses and infrastructure at police facilities in the country.
Nkhotakota MP Peter Mazizi (Malawi Congress Party-MCP) urged the minister to prioritise the construction of new staff houses at Nkhotakota Police Station and Nkhotakota Prison.
“Currently, the existing structures are very old,” he said. Chitipa Central MP Alinubwila Mwenesongole (MCP) also called for the renovation of Ifumbo Police Unit and asked the ministry to consider building houses for officers at the formation.
In response, Ching’oma assured
the House that government would “act accordingly” to address the MPs’ concerns.
He, however, reminded legislators of the funding channels available for constituency-level infrastructure projects.
“Police stations fall under my ministry, but I would like to remind members of Parliament that they can use the CDF [Constituency Development Fund] and DDF [District Development Fund] for police units,” said Ching’oma
