ICT experts hail Admarc’s move to digitise operations
State produce trader Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (Admarc) has earned praise for integrating its information management system to enhance efficiency.
Admarc recently announced that it wants to install integrated management information system.
Reads the statement in part: “Admarc wishes to notify the public that it has finalised the evaluation process for procurement of consultancy services for designing, development, installation, commissioning, user training, warranty and maintenance of an integrated management information system and now intends to award the contract to the successful bidder.”
In an interview yesterday, Information and Communications Technology (ICT) expert Bram Fudzulani said this is a good development because the world has moved towards operational efficiency through automation and innovation.
“Admarc is a critical institution that could benefit from some of the latest technologies that would in the end help them with better customer service across the country,” he said.
Fudzulani, who is former ICT Association of Malawi (Ictam) president, said they hope this transformation will ensure that as processes change, the people are also going to be trained to embrace this new development.
“If not well trained, a lot of good innovation can be frustrated if people are not on board and well trained to use such tools,” he said.
In a separate interview yesterday, Ictam secretary general Andrew Kamwendo said the move is positive as it will link all its systems, which will enhacnce efficiency and accountability.
“To big institutions such as Admarc with different departments and dealing with many stakeholders, it is important to ensure digitalisation because it solves communication and information sharing challenges within the organisation,” he said.
Kamwendo said the system could also enhance financial management because it also supports the accounting systems by ensuring transparency and accountability.
Auditot and former Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi president Moffat Ngalande said in an interview yesterday that efforts to strengthen accounting systems are critical to State-owned enterprises such as Admarc.
Admarc was formed in 1971 as a government-owned corporation to promote the country’s economy by increasing the volume and quality of its agricultural exports as well as developing new foreign markets for the consumption of the agricultural produce and to support farmers.
