IG Kachama urges vigilance in criminal investigations
Inspector General of Police (IG) Lesten Kachama has asked police officers in Zomba to be vigilant in instilling security in the city.
The IG said this on Monday at Zomba Police College during the opening of an eight-week command and leadership course for middle police managers.
The course has brought together 33 officers, including 12 females.
It seeks to drill the officers in criminal procedure and evidence code, investigative skills, patrols and resource management, among other areas.
“The role of police is to protect lives and property in society and we are optimistic that this training will equip these managers with skills to impart to their subordinates which is crucial in crime prevention,” he said.
One of the participants, Superintendent Charles Nandolo, said the training is vital as it will enable them to make sound decisions when they return to their duty stations.
“We will focus on being responsive and accountable police officers to the communities for peace to prevail in the country,” he said. n
