Mangochi District Council awards outstanding employees

Mangochi District Council has awarded 15 employees in the education sector for being best performers in the 2016/17 academic year.

Speaking at Montfort Lake House in the district on Friday, district education manager Joe Magombo said the awards to primary education advisers (PEAs), head teachers and teachers, followed improved pass rate in Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE) examinations over the past three years.

Learners such as these need teachers who are motivated

“The pass rate for Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education has increased from 68 percent in 2015 to 73 percent in 2016 and 86.7 percent in 2017,” he said.

Magombo pointed out that PEAs displayed good planning and that their efforts made an impact in their respective education zones.

Mangochi District Council vice-chairperson Twaha Salanje hailed the initiative, saying it would encourage workers in the sector to work hard.

One of the awardees, head teacher at St. John’s Catholic Primary School Cecilia Nundwe, said she was glad that her hard work had paid off.

“I have been conducting sensitisation meetings to make parents aware of their role in the education of their children and the campaign has been worthwhile,” she said. n
