Jai demands smart artists for phungwe

In international music, the stage attire matters most, but not in Malawi.
Looking at how most local artists dress for performances, it should be an embarrassment if what Entertainers Promotions director Jai Banda has done by ordering that artists engaged for today’s Christmas phungwe at Motel Paradise in Blantyre should be well-dressed, is anything to consider.
Jai, who has organised several music shows in the past, has never asked too much from artists.
When asked why this time, Jai said it is high time Malawian music shows lived up to international standards.
“We have to move with the times and stage shows that can stand international standards. It is easy to influence the audience in terms of time and dressing at shows through examples set by the artists and Entertainers Promotions begins it today. The show will start on time and we have advised the artists to come in time as well. We have advised them to dress smart and look elegant,” said Jai.
He added that they will also present a new stage replete with newly acquired disco lights, more smoke and bubbles.
“It will be totally different from the stages we have been presenting and the objective is to show the public the best music stage as we celebrate the birth of Jesus. It is a special day to all Christians in the world and let us treat it in a special way,” he said.
Dubbed Christmas Eve Urban Explosion, the show features only the cream de la crème of urban music, among them Tay Grin, Blakjak, Piksy, Nesnes, Young Kay, Barry One, Dare Devils, Trumel and several DJs.
