President of the People’s Party (PP), I would realise that my move to pick youthful Sosten Gwengwe as my running mate at the expense of the party’s heavyweights has not been embraced by many within the party.

If I were my good ole mum that is JB, I would realise that while some party gurus might act as if all is well, behind the scenes, they are not happy because they feel betrayed that I have chosen someone who was not considered as a party guru.

I would realise the three party vice-presidents-Khumbo Kachali, Uladi Mussa and Brown Mpinganjira might pretend that all is well when deep down they feel I have offered them a raw deal and they might not offer their full support.

If I were you mum, I would just ask for a clip from TVM on the Gwengwe unveiling ceremony and study the body language of some senior party members to get a true picture of whether they welcomed my move with both hands.

Yes, the decision may be a strategy for the good of the party in order to woo the youth, but then I would ask myself what would stop the youth from voting for a youthful candidate like Atupele Muluzi who will contest for the actual presidency other than wapa carrier?

That is if only I were JB. Unfortunately, I am not the president of the PP.
