Judge unearths ‘golden’ wife in ‘Golide’
Justice Mzonde Mvula of the High Court of Malawi (Criminal Division) has discovered another niche in music industry with his recently-released song, Golide.
The song, which was released on the eve of Valentine’s Day, was written by Mvula himself and his wife Faith Banda, whom he addresses as Nyabanda in the song.

In the production of the song, Mzonde features renowned artists Malceba (real name Smart Mazaka Banda) as a main vocalist and Janta (real name Shukulani Mwachumu) as key producer and backing vocalist.
Meanwhile, the song has won the hearts of many, as it is enjoying airplay at weddings and public gatherings. In fact, recently, Power TV of Zambia, slotted the song in its ‘Big Five’ programme, which ranks hottest songs of the moment, according to votes.
Golide begins with a chorus which portrays how Mvula cherishes his lover, Nyabanda, who is a bank manager at NBS Bank, and is based in Mchinji District.
“Bwenzi langa ndiwe, Khumbo langa ndiwe, Thokoza Ambuye pondipatsa iwe, Bwenzi langa ndiwe, Thokoza Ambuye, Ndapeza golide, Opasula palibe,” goes the chorus.
In the entry verse, Mvula, describes the affair with his wife as a product of ‘love-at-first-sight’, attributing their marriage as God’s plan.
“Kukumana koyamba ndinagwa m’chikondi, Inali pulani ya Mulungu kuti ndipeze chikondi, Mkazi waulemu wokongola wowopa Yehova Kupanga Utumiki limodzi kutumikira Yehova Otsutsa ndani kuti ndiwe Boma langa….?”
In the last verse, Mvula skillfully uses rhyming words to ooze his love for Nyabanda, proclaiming that in her, he found a ‘gold mine’.
“Pena kudzifunsa unali kuti kodi? You are mine! Ndadzipezera mgodi! Chisankho changa ndazipezera voti I am crazy, ndimakupengera poti! Mbuye wayankha ndinkapemphera poti, Eti Abusa, analosera moti, Ndi zakumwamba zodalitsidwa moti, Simungapasule olo mutapita ku khothi!
“Mfumu ndi Mfumukazi yake, Mayi wosamala ana ake, Mayi wosamala banja lake, Chikondi changa wachiyika m’chimake, Ndukuuza ndiwe Golide! N’tafufuza ndapeza Golide! Ndukuuza ndiwe Golide! Golideee!”
In an interview this week, Mvula described his wife as “my love, my pastor and my friend,” adding that she keeps appreciating or gaining value in his life just as a commodity does on the market.
“If you want to invest in a product that will not lose value, invest in golide. While some choose to express love with flowers, others do so with extensive gifts. I chose to take time to express my love to the one I truly love by expansively sharing with the world, my love for her. This way, others would love in general as they enjoy the song.
“Life is sweeter when people share experiences. Doing it over my love story for Faith, expressed in a beat that they would sing along and enjoy their love story, too, would bring vibes to keep celebrating ours,” said Mvula.
The judge also revealed that the song was first released at his mother in-law’s home in Mchinji, where it was played before shooting live scenes during a traditional marriage.
The video of the song has also gone viral as the footage is brim with emotional scenes. Some major scenes were shot during the couple’s official wedding on November 2, at Kumbali Chapel for the church service and Kumbali Castle for the dinner banquet.
“Faith [Nyabanda] makes my life complete. We are evangelists, doing Ministry of God together. We are Trustees of Gifts of Faith Ministries (Mphatso za Chikhulupiliro). We are running a couple of other projects together, behind the scenes. I thank God for her life because with her sweet taste of love, she supports my career as a High Court Judge, allowing me to support hers, too, as NBS Bank banking manager,” he added.
Asked why he roped in Malceba as a main vocalist, Mvula said: “Malceba is my favourite rapper in the world. He is very poetic and mature, but playful with words, who effortlessly combines poetry and lyrical prowess in his music. No time to pick fights with other artists (beef) as others do in the industry elsewhere. If you love good music, Malceba is the right person. I like his personality, too—humble, dependable ally and, indeed, a family man.”
He also revealed that the new production was inspired by another hit song Nawe, which produced by Malceba and Janta.
Writing on his Faceboook Page on Valentine’s Day, Malceba described the project as “Za mabiggie” [for high-class individuals], adding that “audio [was] performed by Janta and Malceba, video by the Ghettofiga and video [was] perfomed by Mzonde, Faith and Malceba, and it is taken from the EP After The silence.
