Miss Culture second princess Murimu Kachitsa is set to represent Malawi at the maiden Miss Premium Africa beauty contest in Port Harcourt, Nigeria in October.

The regional pageant, which has attracted  participation from 22 African countries, is centred on  reorientation of African values, social and cultural integration, talent and skills acquisition and capacity building, among others.

Kachitsa: I have already started my preparations

Kachitsa will participate under the facilitation of organisers of the Miss Culture Malawi Lush Africa, who have also clarified their decision to send someone who came third in the Miss Culture contest and not the winner.

Lush Africa national director Madalo Yusuf Mkuwu said Marumbo Mtonga, who won the contest, will participate in the Miss Culture International to be held in South Africa in November.

She said the decision affirms their belief in the qualities of their top three winners.

“She qualified for the contest and she has got what it takes to represent Malawi. She is beautiful, intelligent and well-mannered as displayed during our camping period for the Miss Culture contest. Our intention is to make all the top three winners earn international recognition,” said Mkuwu.

In her reaction, Kachitsa said she is excited at the prospect of representing Malawi at the regional event.

The 24-year-old said: “I have already started my preparations as I am working on some areas that needed improvement.”

Apart from participating in the Miss Culture Malawi, Kachitsa also took part in the Miss Blantyre contest in 2015 and she said she believes the experience will work in her favour.

Sarah Friday, co-director of Miss Premium Africa, said  22 countries have confirmed their participation in the contest. She said they aim at redefining beauty pageantry by producing queens with integrity and purpose-driven mindset change.

“The contestants will have a new understanding about their culture. They will be groomed to be better versions of themselves. They will have a lot of fun and consolation prizes will also be given,” she said from her base in Nigeria.
