Nyasa Big Bullets striker Hassan Kajoke is the 2020-21 TNM Super League season Golden Boot Award winner with 15 goals after overtaking Silver Strikers’ Maxwell Phodo Gasten on the last day of the season.

Kajoke scored a brace as Bullets beat Karonga United 3-2 om Saturday at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

Kajoke (L) has scored 15 goals in the just ended season

The two strikers were tied at 13 goals apiece, but two goals from Kajoke in the last match for Bullets meant the Silver marksman now finishes as runner-up while his teammate Stain Davie is third with 11 goals.

Kajoke, who has taken over the award from Polokwane striker Khuda Muyaba, was over the moon after the match.

“It feels good to finally win the Golden Boot Award after missing it last season,” he said.

The striker was runner-up to Khuda in 2019 with 17 goals, four below the former Silver marksman.

This season has seen the number of goals scored diminishing.

Soccer analyst Charles Nyirenda said he was not surprised with the development as the season was a tough one due to Covid-19-imposed eight-month long break.

He said: “Let’s accept that this was a very tough season. The players were inactive for close to eight months when football was suspended due to Covid-19.

“When football resumed and the league started, it took time for the players to recover from the long break. No wonder the goals were not forthcoming.

“It is only towards the end of the season that we saw players picking up. It was a tough season for all teams.”

Muyaba’s 2019 season’s 21 goals made him the first player to score over 20 goals in the TNM Super League in 14 years.

The last player to score as much goals was Be Forward Wanderers’ Aggrey Kanyenda who netted 26 in 2005 when he won the Super League Golden Boot for the first time.

Former Nyasa Big Bullets striker Ganizani Malunga is all-time record holder with 28 goals.n
