Kalibu cherishes student for AC Milan Academy trials

Kalibu Academy High School has urged students to take sports seriously as it can offer them career opportunities.

Kalibu Academy deputy head teacher Naomi Konono said this after the school’s Form Five student Sean McBrams was among the seven players AC Milan legend Claudio Balesini selected during trials held in Lilongwe two weeks ago.

“We are happy for Sean for putting the school on the map,” she said.

Konono bemoaned the trend of discouraging students from taking up sports.

Konono said: “It is not only academics that can contribute to one’s success in life. This is the reason Kalibu Academy encourages its students to take sports seriously.

“We have one of best sports facilities in the country to give them a chance to exploits their potential,” she said.

Konono also applauded the student’s parents for encouraging their son to pursue his sports interest besides studying.

In his remarks, McBrams who is also the school’s football team captain, said he was excited to have passed the trials.

“I was excited and surprised because I never expected to pass the trials out of many players who took part in it. It boils down to hard work and I will work hard to impress during the trials in South Africa and Italy,” he said.

The 18-year-old also said sports is one of easiest way to make it in life.

His mother, Brenda said they arranged for him to undergo trials because he is skilful.“I would like to thank the school for recognising him after being selected to undergo trials. The school supported him as well. I would like to acknowledge the role that his father played to let him undergo the trials,” she said. The selected seven players will have a month long camp in South Africa before proceeding to Milan, Italy for the final trials.
