Kamwendo completes Flames’arsenal

Flames captain Joseph ‘Shakira’ Kamwendo arrived in the country on Monday through Kamuzu International Airport to complete Malawi’s squad for Wednesday’s 2014 World Cup qualifier against Namibia’s Brave Warriors at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

He was delayed by club commitments.

The ever upbeat Flames on-field leader said he is optimistic that the Flames will conquer Namibia again.

“I am just appealing to the fans to turn up in their large numbers and give us the moral support in our quest for a double over the Namibians,” said Kamwendo.

In a related development, Kamwendo’s club Desportivo Liga Maculmana has extended his contract by another two years amid reports of prospects of a possible move to a Portuguese club.

A well-placed source told The Nation on Monday that Maculmana has exercised an option to renew his contract six months earlier.

“Maculmana do not want to be caught off-guard in the event that the Portuguese club comes knocking on their door,” said Kamwendo.

He confirmed extending his contract with Maculmana.

“This just shows that they are happy with my services. I would not want to comment about the Portugal prospects, suffice to say there are indeed teams that have shown interest,” said Kamwendo.
