Kaputa yet to take up FAM TD post
Over a month after being hired as Football Association of Malawi (FAM) technical director, John Kaputa is yet to take up his post.
FAM chief executive officer Suzgo Nyirenda confirmed that, officially, Kaputa has not yet taken up his post as he is yet to be cleared by his employers, the Malawi Defence Force (MDF).
This means there has been no TD for almost four months following the firing of Jack Chamangwana.
But Nyirenda played down suggestions that the delay will affect football development programmes, insisting that they are hoping to finalise the Kaputa arrangement by the end of this month.
“It is true, there is need for the TD to start working as soon as possible because development projects are being affected.
“But at the same time, we need to understand the need to follow procedures because Kaputa is employed by the MDF. We only negotiated with the director of training [for MDF] if he couold be seconded to us,” said Nyirenda.
He also said the association has reverted to the old system whereby the TD is on FAM’s salary structure and not government’s.
MDF spokesperson Lieutenant Paul Chiphwanya said it is just a matter of time before the MDF nods to Kaputa’s secondment, otherwise, it was already approved by the Army Commander. Kaputa could not be reached for comment.
