People’s Tribunal

Let us cross over with renewed hope

Dear judge Mbadwa,

Well, well, in just a few hours we will be crossing over into 2024 and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you honourable judge, Mbadwa, for the job well done in 2023.

That 2023 was a challenging year that brought out the best and the worst in Nyasas is common knowledge.

We all know how Cyclone Freddy decimated large populations in our land, especially in the early part of the year and the country has not fully recovered from that tragedy as some people are yet to permanently settle at designated places.

As we speak, there are still thousands of citizens uncounted for and the traumatic experience is deeply etched in the minds of the affected.

My lord, you know that the economic challenges that manifested in perpetual forex and fuel shortages summed up how dismal the country fared on the economic front.

But the last straw that broke the camel’s back was the 44 percent devaluation effected a few months ago.

The going has been tough for the majority of the citizens  as they are failing to acquire the basic needs in the absence of disposable income.

My lord, now we are talking about the El nino phenomenon, something that threatens to drag the majority of Nyasas into hunger.

The political drama in the year under review was also replete with character flaws of bigotry and self-centredness.

From the ruling Tokha are Liars to the ever wrangling People’s Demagogic Party, the actors of the tragic-comedy are yet to reach the exeunt state.

My lord, we still have party leaders and followers who are ready to go the extra mile to advance selfish interests without an iota of shame.

And as I like to say, my Lord, if you were looking for the specialised bootlickers, one need not go anywhere other than Nyasaland where people dance to sad tunes of political idiots as long as they can help them to put some food on the table.

But I am still optimistic that we can begin 2024 on a new slate! We don’t have to carry our excesses into this brand new year.  I wish you all a very happy and prosperous new year.
