Lilongwe continues to dominate the annual SDV Inter-club Ladies Golf. They did it again on Sunday at Kasasa Golf Club in Dwangwa, Nkhotakota.

The two-day tournament saw the Lilongwe Team B comprising Evelyn Bailey, Maria Cho and Regina Mwanza outclass Blantyre and Dwangwa teams to ensure that the crocodile trophy remains in the capital city. Last year, it was the Lilongwe Team A that clinched the honours.

The winners had a score of 76 points while the Kasasa team of Ruth Mvula, Tanya Dave, Nicky Stewart and Lusubilo Chakaniza finished second with 66 points.

The Blantyre Team of Wilma Chalulu, Beatrice Mangwana and Doreen Kavala came third on 63 points after counting out Lilongwe Team A of Maina Mkandawire and Sheila Chinkhandwe.

The winning team received the traditional crocodile trophy while each member of the team also received a set of cooking pots.

In her victory speech, Bailey thanked the sponsors for organising the tournament.

“We are happy to have won today against some top golfers. We thank SDV for the tournament,” said Bailey.

SDV assistant commercial manager Georgina Msiska expressed satisfaction with the passion shown by the lady golfers.

“I am thrilled that the tournament remains popular as witnessed by the enthusiasm and the finesse in organisation despite having a lesser pool of players compared to men,” said Msiska.

She also announced that the SDV brand has now changed to Bollore Africa Logistics.

SDV donated K150 000 (about $375) towards maintenance of the golf course at Kasasa.

The Ladies Golf Union used the event to welcome Wilma Chalulu as its new president, replaying Carol Banda.
