During the handover ceremony, Limbe Police Station officer in charge Gladson Chipumphula emphasized the importance of respecting and caring for the elderly and warned against labelling them as witches and wizards, a crime punishable by law.

He said: “It is illogical and disrespectful to label people who deserve respect as wizards and witches. This vice is a crime punishable by law and we will not hesitate to apprehend the perpetrators of these criminal acts.

“We ask communities to take good care of their parents and the elderly as they dictionaries and custodians of our culture.”

Senior Group Village Head Matenje thanked Limbe Police management for the timely donation and asked for continued support by extending the gesture to others who are also less privileged.

One of the beneficiaries Mary Raphael who looks after eight orphans said the gifts will change her life during the festive season.

“This donation will go a long way to meet some of our needs and we appeal to other well-wishers to join in,” she said.
