Lilongwe-based urban music star Lulu, real name Lawrence Khwisa, spiced up the Film Association of Malawi (Fama) gala night with an exciting and interactive performance on Sunday night in Lilongwe.

The artist was a guest performer during the event that brought together local film makers and actors.

Lulu in the thick of things

Throughout his one-hour performance, Lulu showcased his brilliant guitar playing skills, offering patrons an interesting Boxing Day experience.

Patuma, Hannah, Pemphero Langa, Zikukanika Bwanji Kukhululuka, Walero and Mbambande were some of the night’s favourites from the renowned musician who was backed by his Mathumela Band.

On a lighter note, the artist at some point during his performance, asked patrons if their reactions were genuine or part of acting.

“Am I really making you happy or you guys are acting? Actors are funny and unpredictable. You can share a laughter while you are not happy at all,” he joked.

Fama president Gift ‘Sukez’ Sukali said the meeting was a platform for film makers to reflect on their activities in the year just ending as well as to promote idea sharing and networking amongst film producers and actors.

During the event, the association signed a new working partnership with one of the country’s leading electronics accessory distributing companies HiFi Electronics.

According to Sukez, among other terms of the signed memorandum, Fama members will be allowed to access film production equipment and accessories at a 10 percent discount in the company’s outlets.

In his remarks, HiFi Electronics marketing manager Moses Makawa said they thought of partnering the association following its passion in making Malawi film industry grow. He hailed Fama leadership for strides they are undertaking towards the development of the industry, saying it is promising and worth their support.
