Mabedi claims four foreign offers on the table
Immediate-past Flames’ coach Patrick Mabedi says he has received offers from four foreign top league teams, but he is still weighing the options.
The former caretaker coach of South African giants Kaizer Chiefs said in an interview yesterday that the offers are from South African and Zambian teams.
However, he could not be drawn to disclose the identity of the teams, saying it would be premature at this stage.
“They approached with the offers, but I have told them to allow me rest for now as I undergo transition and I will be able to consider their offers next year,” the former Malawi National Football Team, Kaizer Chiefs and FCB Nyasa Bullets captain said.
Football Association of Malawi (FAM) last month terminated Mabedi’s two-year contract with a year left following a poor run in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers, which saw the Flames lose their first four matches.
In his place, FAM hired an interim coaching panel led by Kallisto Pasuwa, which drew 0-0 against Burundi and beat Burkina Faso 3-0 in the last fixtures of the Afcon campaign.
Mabedi has since sued FAM for unlawful dismissal and termination of contract at the Industrial Relations Court (IRC) in Blantyre.
Another former Flames coach Meck Mwase, who has been awarded K440 million compensation by a court for unlawful termination of contract, redeployment and constructive dismissal at the IRC, yesterday said he is yet to get offers.
After his sojourn with the Flames, Mwase had a short stint with a top E-swatini league club Nsingizini Hotspurs before joining the Nomads as assistant coach at the start of the season and later on head coach., but his contract was recently terminated following his absence from duty for two weeks without notice or approval.
