Maduka laments cup exit
South Africa-based Malawian coach John Maduka has attributed his team Royal AM’s 2-1 loss to Kaizer chiefs in a Nedbank Cup quarter-final match on Sunday to lack of concentration.
The Flames legend said they gave Amakhosi a good run for their money until “the unfortunate late own goal”.
He was quoted by Kickoff.com as having said they managed the game well, but lost the plot after conceding an own goal.
Said Maduka: “They never looked like they would score until we made that mistake.
“So, in other words, we made things difficult for ourselves. In games like these, you have to concentrate for the entire match.
“You make one mistake you get punished. Nevertheless, I am so proud of the boys, they never gave up.
“We scored an own goal and the other was from a penalty.”
He also said his charges struggled when they switched to long balls, which is not their style and said he was not happy with that.
“We did not play nthe way we normally do, but still we continued fighting,” he said.
The Flames legend said they will now switch their focus to their remainng DStv Premiership Games.
Royal AM are eighth in the 16-team South African top-flight league with 32 points from 25 matches.
