Promoted: NdiloweMalawi President Joyce Banda on Monday fired chief secretary to the government Bright Msaka and replaced him with his former deputy, Hawa Ndilowe.

The dismissal came hours after Msaka was arrested alongside 10 others purportedly in connection with a Commission of Inquiry Report into the death of former president Bingu wa Mutharika on April 5 last year.

The report, among others, exposed a plot to bar the late Mutharika’s then estranged vice-president Joyce Banda from ascending to the presidency in line with constitutional order.

In a statement signed by presidential press secretary Steven Nhlane, Willie W. Samute is now the Deputy Chief Secretary to the Government and will be responsible for both the public service and Cabinet services.

The President has also appointed former inspector general of police Joseph Aironi as director of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) and retired Malawi Defence Force (MDF) commander general Marko Chiziko is the National Security Adviser.
