Malawi is set to host the 2023 International Vocation Education and Training Association (Iveta) World in November this year in Mangochi.

The conference, which will be jointly hosted by the Ministry of Labour and Technical, Entrepreneurial, Vocational Education and Training (Tevet) Authority, will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to discuss, network and share best practices and developments in the global Tevet and skills development sector.

Sichiola: We have to learn from other countries

Speaking on the sidelines of a breakfast meeting with stakeholders in Blantyre on Thursday, Ministry of Labour director of technical and vocational training Richard Chirwa said Malawi will benefit a lot from hosting the event.

He said: “As a country, we are implementing Malawi 2063 where the fifth enabler is about human capital development.

“As a country, we have to learn from other countries around the world.”

Chirwa said since 2012 when Malawi hosted the conference, it has registered a lot of progress, including the establishment of community colleges, skills development centres and technical teacher training institutions to improve the quality of graduates.

Tevet Authority executive director Elwin Sichiola said apart from learning from the 50 Iveta member countries, Malawi will have an opportunity to promote herself as a tourist destination.

He said: “Participants will have an opportunity to participate and share their experience.

“With over 100 international delegates participating, we would also like to showcase Malawi as a tourism destination; hence, the need to have more partners.”

One of the stakeholders, Samaritan Trust trustee Abbas Panjwani urged Tevet Authority to partner the private sector in the skills development and job creation agenda.

The conference will be held from November 14 to 16 2023.
