One of the five Malawian contestants in the ongoing regional music competition My Booth, Vanessa Nalikungwi, has been evicted.

She has been kicked out alongside two Zimbabweans Evidence Manhanda and Simangaliso Mutize.

Nalikungwi said though she has not decided on her next steps, the experience from the competition will be decisive in her music pursuits.

In an interview, she said: “Nothing is easy. It takes willingness than talent. The exposure to new people and experience will help me to grow in wisdom. I will soon release a single and see how far I can go.”

The contest, organised by Pan-African record label Elation Entertainment, will see the winner walk away with $10 000 plus a record deal worth $50 000. Weekly episodes of the competition are aired on DStv’s Power TV channel 278.

In an interview yesterday, Elation Entertainment chief executive officer Sokwani Chilembo said the competition is progressing well as the contestants have proved to be competitive and collective in their approach.

“The competition has gained momentum. With the different challenges that the contestants have taken on, there is need for collaborations in the house,” he said.

The competition has 13 episodes which will run till August. The evictions are done randomly at the judges’ discretion.

Chilembo said the judges are considering versatility, originality, creativity and personality of the contestants.

In the competition, Malawi is being represented by Alipo Mpita, Joe Kellz, Chisomo Chimoto and Sindy Uja Ndine.

Malawian musician Namadingo is one of the judges.

He said the Malawian contestants have now picked up. He said the Zambian contestants have also proved to be solid, but he did not rule out the chances of his compatriots.
