Mallick rebrands to Mr 265
Call him Mr 265. The man Malawians have known as DJ Mallick for years has restyled his name to mirror patriotism and versatility.
Oops! Born Masuzgo Msiska, the celebrated Power 101 deejay has also dropped the DJ tag from his showbiz name.
Mallick’s digit-based nomenclature is not a new phenomenon for even the globally acclaimed MC Pitbull prefers to be called Mr 305 in honour of the area code of Miami in Florida, US.
Presently, Pitbull has christened his independent record label after the moniker.
Explaining the change of name recently, Blantyre–based Mallick said: “I have rebranded to Mr 265 because my scope of work has become broader than just disc-jockeying. Lately, I have carved a new niche as MC for corporate functions and people don’t seem to take me seriously when they hear about the DJ thing.
“Besides, I will be happier if my fans and the media call me Mr 265 because I am Malawian and I love my country whose telephone code is +265.”
Malawians will remember the star for a set fusing kwaito, hip-hop and Malawian beats when he performed for Big Brother Africa housemates in South Africa last year.
He has been spotted master of ceremonies at events hosted by MultiChoice Malawi, banks and insurance companies since.
