Man killed for not honouring K3 000 job

A 47-year-old man in Ntcheu was stabbed to death for failing to honour work deadline to clear a garden after pocketing K3 000 (US$8).

Police have identified the deceased as Gift Malafodi while his attacker is identified as 63-year-old Funsani Patrick.

Ntcheu Police public relations officer Gift Matewere in a statement said Malafodi received K3 000 from Funsani on agreement that he (Malafodi) will clear Funsani’s garden.

“After seeing that the deceased is failing to finish the job in time, the suspect got furious and confronted him until he stabbed him with a knife on his chest,” said Matewere.

Malafodi was rushed to Ntcheu District Hospital where he died few hours later, added Matewere.

He said police arrested Funsani and has since charged with him of murder contrary to Section 209 of the Penal Code. The offence attracts death penalty.

Matewere further said that a postmortem report obtained at the hospital indicates that the knife perforated into the heart of the deceased.

Funsani hails from Ndagoma Village Traditional Authority (T/A) Kwataine in Ntcheu.

In a related development, police have also arrested village head Magombo for unlawfully wounding Alfred Chidatha, 70, of Nenani Village Traditional Authority Mpando in Ntcheu.

The two picked a quarrel when the village head was coming from a beer drinking spree with a friend.

Magombo stabbed Alfred with a knife on his stomach leaving intestines hanging out.

Meanwhile the victim has been referred to Kamuzu Central Hospital for treatment.

The village head whose real name is Elias Listen 35 hails from Zing’anda Village T/A Mpando in the district and has been charged with unlawful wounding contrary to Section 241 of the Penal Code.
