Marsh Malawi Limited have pledged to continue sponsoring the Match Play golf tournament at Lilongwe Golf Club (LGC).

The company’s managing director Oscar Mpando gave the assurance during prize presentation of this year’s Marsh Limited Match Play on Saturday. He also thanked the golfers for their support in the competition.

“I know you have endured a long journey since July 2013 to reach this far, I thank you for the support and I am encouraged with the turn out,” said Mpando.

LGC captain Justice Ken Manda thanked Marsh for the support it renders to the club through the sponsorship golf.

William Chimpeni emerged the overall winner when he beat veteran Clement Chilingulo on hole 16.

“My most enjoyable moment was in the semi-finals when I beat former national team player and team manager Brian Coombes on hole 17. He is a steady golfer, it was not easy to beat him,” said Chimpeni

Surprisingly and interestingly, Chimpeni partnering Victor Kachepatsonga, were the champions in the doubles after they beat the formidable pair of Chilingulo and Thakor Mehendra. This doubles finals had to go for sudden death after the two teams tied in the regulatory 18 holes.

Chilingulo and Mahendra could not match the duo of Chimpeni and Kachepatsonga as they lost their way on hole 21.

This year’s match play was unique as the singles finalists— Chimpeni and Chilingulo—also featured in the doubles finals.

Marsh also organised individual stableford for ladies and men to curtainraise the match play finals.
