MCP not in hurry to replace Daza

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) says it is not in a hurry to appoint a new secretary general to replace Chris Daza who joined the People’s Party (PP).
MCP administrative secretary Potiphar Chidaya said in an interview the party is operating normally.
“It is business as usual in the MCP, so there is no need to hurry to appoint a secretary general,” said Chidaya.
Daza’s deputy, Chatonda Kaunda, is acting secretary general and according to Chidaya, Kaunda is discharging his duty with the support of the administrative secretary.
Reports had indicated that the MCP convened a meeting on Sunday to replace Daza, but failed to reach a consensus. Chidaya confirmed the meeting, but denied that it was aimed at choosing a replacement for Daza.
“The meeting was convened to discuss some issues. Of course that issue [of replacing Daza] would have been discussed, but there was not enough time,” he said.
