Warned the Directorate of Road Traffic and Safety Services (DRTSS) against corrupt practices: Kasaila

Minister of Transport and Public Works Francis Kasaila has warned the Directorate of Road Traffic and Safety Services (DRTSS) against corrupt practices, saying the new government will not be lenient with any staff member involved in the act.

Speaking during a team-building retreat for the DRTSS’s staff at Natural Resources College (NRC) in Lilongwe on Friday, Kasaila said the directorate’s image is being dented by the malpractice.

“My office has received many complaints relating to corrupt practices at DRTSS. I know that the directorate has strategies to mitigate these ills, but we seem not to make any headway,” he said.

He, therefore, urged the staff to work towards combating corruption and restoring the directorate’s image.

DRTSS director James Chirwa said his office will intensify its efforts in dealing with corruption.

According to him, the directorate is already working with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to formulate a Corruption Prevention Policy aimed at assisting in the fight against corruption.
