Minister urges health players to explore alternative financing
Speaking at Capital Hill on Friday when the Global Fund handed over vehicles and medical equipment to the Ministry of Health, line minister Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda called on stakeholders to avoid depending on one revenue stream, as evidence has shown that things can change unexpectedly.
On Januar y 20 this year, Trump suspended development aid pending a 90-day review, and this has affected operations in beneficiary developing countries, including Malawi.

“As a ministry, we launched a programme where hospitals look for alternative financing to enable them to continue providing health services,” said Chiponda.
She also assured that government will continue providing critical health services such as ART.
Weighing in on the development, health activist Maziko Matemba said civil society organisations have already started looking for aid elsewhere.
“We launched the health financing strategy in 2023 and we are hoping that government will continue and intensify sourcing financing for the sector,” he said.
