“We need to find various ways of mobilising revenues and be able to support our development,” said Mwanamvekha, warning MRA officials against indulging in corruption.

In his remarks, MRA commissioner general Felix Tambulasi commended officers for their hard-working spirit, saying they collected K4 trillion in taxes from March to December 2025.

He expressed optimism that they will hit the target of K4.4 trillion by the end of this fiscal year on March 31.

“MRA officers have done a tremendous amount of work in revenue collection and I am happy that we are now surpassing the targets,” said Tambulasi.

During the event, MRA also rolled out the use of drones to curb smuggling through uncharted routes, a development Tambulasi said will help to enhance revenue mobilisation.

“The drones will be of vital importance because they will be able to detect all smugglers from a distance,” he said.

This year’s International Customs Day was commemorated under the theme ‘Customs protecting society through vigilance and commitment’.
