Newly elected Misa Malawi national governing council on Friday met Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (Macra) director general Daud Suleman in Blantyre to discuss a number of issues affecting the media industry.

In an interview, Suleman said Macra needed to share notes with the new team as they will be working together in addressing issues affecting the media.

Macra and the Misa team explored possible areas of collaboration including effective management of developments in the broadcasting sector.

Misa Malawi chairperson Golden Matonga urged Macra to consider a holistic approach in the management of challenges affecting broadcasters such as delays in remittance of licence fees.

On the other hand, Suleman expressed concern over poor management of radio stations despite Macra efforts to build the capacity of broadcasters.
Both teams have agreed to work together to develop the sector, including community broadcasters.

“I also pledged to support Misa in its efforts to promote media freedom in the country,” said Suleman
