Mkaka hits back at critics

Former Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Secretary General Eisenhower Mkaka has lashed at critics who are labeling him a disgruntled member of the party after losing his national executive committee (NEC) position at the August party convention.

Some quarters have been reporting that Mkaka and other party members feel sidelined in both the party and government are ganging up to leave the party.

But speaking at a rally at Mgona ground in Lilongwe on Sunday, Mkaka challenged that he was born in MCP and he has always been an acting member contributing in various capacities even when the party was in opposition.

He said: “I follow the MCP four corner stones which are unity, obedience, discipline and loyalty so it is not true that I can be the same person to break these corner stones.”

Mkaka said despite losing the SG position to Richard Chimwendo Banda, he represented him at a rally in Kasungu and also joined him on another rally in Dowa to show his commitment to developing the party.

During his turn, Chimwendo Banda outlined the developments which have happened during the current regime and advised the people to look for development agenda in what political parties are saying on rallies.

“When we say the country is developing we look at the development agenda and it’s implementation which the current government has displayed,” he said.

Former Democratic Progressive Party NEC members Grezelda Geoffrey who was DPP SG, Uladi Mussa who was DPP vice president for the centre, Hetherwick Ntaba and Ken Msonda also spoke during the rally and said they have the capacity to deflate DPP.

There were also other MCP NEC members, cabinet Ministers and top party officials who took turns addressing the crowd.

The rally was spiced up with performances from Mlaka Maliro, Joseph Mkasa, Skefa Chimoto, Simon and Kendal and Dan Lufani. There were also different traditional performances.
