Mulhako wa Alhomwe Festival ends on high note

The Mulhako wa Alhomwe Festival came to a close yesterday at its Chonde Headquarters in Mulanje with former president and patron Peter Mutharika emphasising on the need to preserve culture.

“Mulhako wa Alhomwe Festival is a vital part of our cultural identity. It’s essential that we preserve our traditions and pass them to future generations,” he said.

Attendee Shabilu Saizi echoed Mutharika’s sentiments, highlighting the significance of the cultural festival.

“Mulhako wa Alhomwe is more than just a festival. It is a celebration of our roots and community,” said Saizi.

This year’s event was a vibrant showcase of traditional dances, music and cultural exhibitions that drew thousands of attendees.

The festival featured an array of activities that highlighted the rich cultural heritage of the Lhomwe people. They included Phalombe Malaphi Nganda, Phalombe Soopa and Gule wa Mkulu.

Additionally, the festival showcased traditional crafts such as woodcarvings, basketry, textiles as well as local cuisine.

The event also included traditional music performances and cultural competitions where participants showcased their knowledge and skills in traditional practices. The competitions added an edge to the festival.

It also provided a platform for cultural exchange, unity and pride among the Lhomwe people.

Mulhako wa Alhomwe festival has become a cornerstone of Malawi cultural celebrations, attracting thousands of attendees annually.
