In a bid to promote sports development and inclusivity in Malawi, the Norwegian Sports Confederation (Norges IdrettsForbund, NIF) has embarked on a partnership tour with the Malawi Olympic Committee (MOC).

NIF director of international relations Rune Arctander said they are happy that the partnership is producing results.

He said: “We believe that sport has the power to transform lives and communities. Our partnership with MOC is crucial in ensuring that sports programmes in Malawi are safe, equitable, and inclusive.”

Arctander said this Wednesday after he toured MOC offices in Lilongwe.

The visit also included meetings with Ministry of Youth and Sports, Judo Association of Malawi and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) officials.

On his part, MOC president Jappie Mhango said the partnership has helped to build their capacity.

He said: “The NIF partnership has been instrumental in helping us improve our governance tools and service delivery. We’re grateful for their support and look forward to continued collaboration.”

Ministry of Youth and Sports through the director of sports Jameson Ndalama commended NIF for the partnership programme, saying it has empowered marginalised communities to participate in sports by fostering inclusivity and social change.

He said: “The partnership has reached its half way mark and we are thrilled to see significant progress. This milestone fills us with hope as stakeholders and athletes as we collectively strive to develop sports in Malawi.”
