Mpinganjira impressed with Nomads’club house refurbishment
Mighty Mukuru Wanderrs president and board chairperson Thomson Mpinganjira says he is impressed with the progress of the Nomads’ clubhouse renovations.
The business mogul and philanthropist said this after touring the facility on Thursday along Lali Lubani Road in Blantyre to appreciate the works.
Appearing relaxed and excited, Mpinganjira said he believes the club’s ambitious commercialisation drive, which includes supporters’ membership registration and selling of replicas, is on the right track.
He was quoted by Wanderers media team as having said: “I took it upon myself to appreciate the progress.
“I would say so far, my take is that the contractor has done amazing work. A lot of things have changed and I am extremely happy with what is happening here.”
He said the efforts are meant to restore the club’s old glory.
“Wanderers is the oldest and used to be a vibrant brand, it deserves to reclaim its old status,” added the Nomads’ boss.
Mpinganjira periodically visits Wanderers secretariat to interact with staff and get updates on various projects.
During the visit, he was accompanied by Wanderers board secretary Chancy Gondwe and directors Andre Kalinde, Chris Gondwe and Limbani Magomero.
Mighty Wanderers 2021 Limited embarked on the project that has seen establishment of a merchandise Shop, VIP Lounge and restaurant, among others, early this year.
The second phase is scheduled to commence soon and involves renovation of the secretariat, gym and a recreational centre.
Meanwhile, the club’s chief executive officer said about K100 million has been spent on the first phase.
The clubhouse was built in the early 1960s and has been the team’s home ever since.
