MPs want examination fees abolished for all
Ntchisi South MP Peter Gamula (Independent) has called on government to extend the removal of national examination fees to private schools.
Speaking in Parliament yesterday, the MP said some Malawians have expressed concern about the decision to scrap examination fees for public schools only.

He said there are also people in private schools who are struggling to pay the fees, adding that most learners are in private schools because government does not have adequate space in public schools
“Can the DPP government consider removing the examination fees in private secondary schools as well?” said Gamula.
In response, Minister of Information and Communications Technology Shadric Namalomba said for the time being, the abolishment of examination fees applies to students in public schools.
He said the assumption is that if people are able to send children to private schools, they have the capacity to pay examination fees.
“We are aware that there are some learners that lose parents or people that were supporting them and it becomes difficult,” said Namalomba.
