Mutharika’s SONA inspires hope for youths, women – CTS MD

CTS Funeral and Courier Services managing director Jacqueline Bokosi has commended President Peter Mutharika for prioritising youth and women empowerment in his State of the Nation Address (SONA), describing the proposals as a major step towards uplifting vulnerable groups.

In his address, Mutharika pledged that starting from the 2026/27 financial year, government will allocate MK100 million in soft loans for youth and another MK100 million for women in every constituency annually to promote entrepreneurship and economic growth.

He also announced plans to prioritise community colleges, resume construction of abandoned institutions, continue the Graduate Internship Programme and provide MK250 million in grants to persons with disabilities. Government will also fully support the National Children’s Commission to safeguard children’s rights and welfare.

Reacting to the address, Bokosi said the measures are inspiring and have the potential to transform the lives of many youths and women who often remain at the bottom of the economic pyramid.

Bokosi: This is a progressive and encouraging direction

“This is a progressive and encouraging direction. If implemented effectively, these initiatives will empower young people and women to start businesses, create jobs and improve their livelihoods,” she said.

However, Bokosi urged beneficiaries to use the funds responsibly.

“I would like to encourage women and the youth to use the money prudently so that it achieves the intended purpose. These loans must translate into sustainable businesses and long-term economic benefits,” she said.

She further expressed hope that the programmes will be implemented transparently and equitably across all constituencies to ensure that no one is left behind.
