Chauka Sisters netball fans must turn to other teams because it is now official that the Mzuzu-based team has been disbanded.

The team’s sponsor Chauka Mwasinga, who served the team for over 15 years, confirmed the development in an interview on Monday.

“I want to rest and let others try,” said Mwasinga.

“I have written the Mzuzu and Districts Netball League (MDNL), the Northern Region Netball Committee (NRNC) and the Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) that the players can join teams of their choice.,” he said, adding that he might bounce back in future

Chauka Sisters team manager Wikly Banda said he was not sure of the reasons behind the disbanding of the team.

But NRNC chairperson Chancy Munthali blamed the club’s officials for being disrespectful to the sponsor.

NAM president Rosy Chinunda said she was shocked at the news.

“I thank him for contributing to netball development, but I am shocked,” said Chinunda.

Former Queens players Future Mtegha and Nellie Chimaliro were products of Chauka Sisters.
