Mwaungulu relishes 2023 season

 FCB Nyasa Bullets midfielder Patrick Mwaungulu says 2023 will remain his memorable season in his football career.

The vastly talented attacker, who was crowned TNM Super League Player of the Season as well as Best Midfielder, said he owed his impressive performance to team work.

He said: “I am very grateful to the management, fellow players, technical panel and the fans for the overwhelming support in one of the toughest seasons ever.”

Mwaungulu scored eight goals and had nine assists which earned him four man of the match awards in the just-ended season

“It all goes down to team work. It wasn’t easy considering the number of injuries we had and the congested fixtures due to our CAF Champions League participation. We had to push hard for whatever we achieved last season,” the soft-spoken player said.

Mwaungulu beat Dedza Dynamos forward Clement Nyondo, Silver Strikers midfielder Chimwemwe Idana, and Mighty Wakawaka Tigers goalkeeper Innocent Nyasulu in the battle for the most outstanding player.

In the best midfielder category he outsmarted Idana, Robert Saizi of Bangwe All Stars, Silver’s Chikondi Kamanga and Lloyd Aaron who was with Civil Service United last season but has signed for Bullets.

Mwaungulu, 21, who joined Bullets in 2018 from Mzuzu-based Sanwecka, also thanked football fans who voted for him in the two categories.

Football analyst Charles Nyirenda said Mwaungulu deserved the two accolades for his contribution to his team’s success in the just ended season.

He said: “That boy is the heart of Bullets. But mind you, he is yet to reach the fullest potential.”

In other individual awards, Mighty Wakawaka goalkeeper Innocent Nyasulu was named Best Goalkeeper while Mighty Mukuru Wanderers captain Stanley Sanudi was named best defender.

Bangwe All Stars midfielder Robert Saizi, who has just signed for Zanaco of Zambia, was named rookie of season while Dedza Dynamos striker Clement Nyondo won the golden boot.
