Malawi’s netball export to Australia Mwawi Kumwenda has for the first time missed out on the All-Time Suncorp Netball Team list released yesterday.

The Queens shooter, who won the 2017 All-Star Suncorp Netball League Award as the Best Goal Shooter (GS), has attributed the development to injuries that plagued her career for the past two seasons.

“You know I suffered a nasty injury that kept me out for the whole netball season. It was the worst time in my netball career. You know I love netball so much,” said the Melbourne Vixens shooter.

Fans vote for their best Suncorp League players and Mwawi has been replaced by her teammate Caitlin.

Caitlin narrowly edged out Fever goal-scoring machine Jhaniele Fowler by just 53 votes.

Goal Attacker accolade went to Queensland Firebirds’ Gretel Bueta after she edged out Nat Medhurst and Jo Harten.

Liz Watson, who also plays for Vixens and won the 2017 Young Star of the Year accolade, was named Best Wing-attacker while Laura Langman from Sunshine Coast Lightning won the position of Best Centre.

Wing Defence accolade went to Ash Brazil of Collingwood Magpies while the best Goal Defence accolade went to Karla Pretorius of Sunshine Coast Lightning.

Geva Mentor another player from Collingwood Magpies, won the Best Goalkeeper position.

Sunshine Coast Lightning’ Noeline Taurua was voted the Best Coach.
