Mzuzu City Council set for summit
Mzuzu City Council says it is set for the Mzuzu City Summit scheduled for July 26 2023 under the theme ‘Urban renewal and economic growth’.
This will be the third city summit in Malawi following others held by Blantyre City Council on February 23 and Lilongwe City Council on May 23.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the summit’s organising secretary Lieutenant Colonel Yoram Ngwira (retired) said they will, among others, discuss how to improve service delivery and create a progressive city council.
Reads the statement in part: “The forthcoming summit is geared to co-create city solutions to spur social and economic development and accelerate implementation of Malawi Implementation Plan [MIP 1] for the Malawi 2063.

“The council and organising committee anticipate having about 200 delegates from various institutions at national, regional and local level.”
The council has since called for both material and financial support and partnership from different stakeholders and interested parties with the budget pegged at K12.8 million.
Mzuzu City Council spokesperson McDonald Gondwe said the focus will be on four thematic areas, including waste management.
“The inaugural summit will focus on four thematic areas of waste management, local revenue generation, vending and transport and connectivity under the main theme of urban renewal and economic growth,” he said.
The summits are a brainchild of the Ministry of Local Government, Unity and Culture to provide a platform for government leaders, industry experts, city residents, faith-based and non-governmental organisations to address challenges facing councils and come up with their solutions.
