Maneb to administer deferred MSCE exams
Malawi National Examinations Board (Maneb) says it will administer deferred 2023 Malawi School Certificate of Education examinations to four candidates whose written papers were stolen at Bulala Community Day Secondary School in Mzimba North.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Maneb executive director Professor Dorothy Nampota said burglars broke into the storage room at the school on Sunday night and tampered with nine envelopes of written papers.
She said: “They tampered with papers for Agriculture 1, Biology 1, English 1, 2 and 3, Mathematics 1 and 2, Social and Life Skills 1 and 2 and scripts for four candidates were stolen.”
Nampota said the examinations will be administered from today to Sunday.
Commenting on the matter, education expert Steve Sharra commended Maneb for a speedy response, but was quick to say that what happened demonstrates serious examinations security lapses.
“The action by Maneb is quite commendable as it will prevent the four candidates from being victimised. However, it is important for the board to ensure that such security lapses are avoided,” he said.
Maneb started administering this year’s MSCE examinations on June 27.
However, main subjects are expected to be concluded this week.
