Namakhwa switches allegiance to PP

Thyolo Central Member of Parliament Kingsley Namakhwa has dumped the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
He has since pledged his support to President Joyce Banda and the People’s Party (PP).
The MP confirmed the switch on Monday, saying development activities suffered in his area because he was in the opposition.
“I want to serve my constituents better. Chiefs were in a dilemma when I was in opposition,” said Namakhwa.
But he could not say if the ruling party has accommodated him. “We are discussing at party level, but I will work with them inside and outside Parliament,” he said.
DPP spokesperson Nicholas Dausi said Namakhwa has just exercised his political right in a democracy.
DPP has faced massive defections in the recent past.
Last week, Lilongwe South MP Agnes Penemulungu, also elected on DPP ticket announced, she was an independent MP.
