TakenoLab has embarked on a project to drill youths in Dowa District in computer skills under Digital Malawi Project.

The Malawi Government Project seeks to create a brighter future for the youth in the country to ensure that they access computer skills.

The project will focus on providing computer training to 16 schools in Dowa,  targeting 12 primary and four secondary schools in phases.

In an interview on Monday, TakenoLab finance officer Yamikani Godfrey Katengwa said the programme’s first phase will target schools from Chigudu and Nalunga zones in the district.

He said the schools were selected through a fair and unbiased random process and they represent a diverse array of backgrounds and locations in the district.

Katengwa said the schools will learn fundamental computer skills, software application, internet usage and basic programming concepts.

“After the first phase, TakenoLab plans to expand the programme to more schools in the district,” he said.

The NGO’s digital trainer Rhodrick Mhone urged the youth to embrace the opportunity.

Dowa district council acting chief planning officer Yusuf Laki appealed to partners implementing various interventions in the district to provide to the District Executive Committee quarterly progress reports of their projects to enhance cooperation, transparency and accountability.

The programme will provide increased digital literacy and computer proficiency, access to valuable information and improve problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
