The National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) Trust has asked its volunteers in Thyolo and Chiradzulu districts to encourage people to register in large numbers ahead of the 2025 Tripartite Elections.

Nice civic education officer for Thyolo and Chiradzulu Moses Kaunda said this on Saturday after a training of volunteers on activities leading to the elections.

He also told the volunteers to popularise Boma Lathu Project and the country’s long-term development strategy, the Malawi 2023.

“The training is part of the mindset change interventions meant to sensitise volunteers to encourage people, especially the youth to register with the National Registration Bureau [NRB] to get identity cards so that they can register with the Malawi Electoral Commission to vote in 2025,” said Kaunda.

He said politics is a game of numbers; hence, the need for people to register in large numbers to vote for a leader of their choice.

“If citizens have people in mind to vote for, the best decision is to go and register with NRB so that they can take part in an election and choose the people of their choice,” said Kaunda.

John Tambwali, a volunteer from Muonekera Ward in Traditional Authority (T/A) Chimaliro in Thyolo, said the training came at a time they were about to roll out civic education exercise.

On his part, Ali Mandolo, a volunteer from T/A Mpunga in Chiradzulu pledged to team up with other volunteers in the district to embark on civic and voter education exercise early.

The training was supported by the Malawi Government.
