Nomads lead the way
Defending champions Be Forward Wanderers have ascended to the summit of the TNM Super League log table after yesterday’s narrow 1-0 victory over Masters Security at Balaka Stadium.
The Nomads left it late to claim three points, courtesy of Julius Kajembe lone strike in the dying minutes of the match.
Masters seemed to be on course to claim a point from the defending champions, but Kajembe came to the rescue of his side with a clinical finish, much to the relief of the Nomads technical panel.
The results mean the Nomads are on the driving seat on the table, after Civil Sporting Club claimed a 1-0 derby win over Blue Eagles.
The victory has breathed some life into the civil servants’ title bid after they were held to a draw by minnows Masters Security in the Super League opener.
Raphael Phiri scored the winner in the 35th minute in a match at Nankhaka Stadium, where Civil dominated.
The striker could have claimed a brace but hit the crossbar later in the second- half.
Eagles who went into the match on the back of a 4-1 demolition of rookies TN Stars were, in all footballing senses, disorganised in all departments.
If Civil were more ruthless, the score margin could have been more significant.
Eagles coach De Klerk Msakakuona admitted that his team was not focused.
“We were not aggressive from the opening half. But that is a good lesson and we expect to improve in the next games,“ he said.
Civil assistant coach Oscar Kaunda said he was pleased that they have recorded their first win of the season.
“It was not an easy game. We just hope that this is the beginning of good results for this season. Our target is to finish in the top three,” he said.
Azam Tigers are now on second position with four points, after bagging full points following a 3-2 victory over visting Moyale Barracks at Mulanje Park Stadium.
Nchalo United could not live up to their impressive start as they suffered a 0-2 home defeat to Karonga United at Kalulu Stadium in Chikwawa.
Mzuzu University (Mzuni) also recovered from their last weekend loss to Nchalo and beat Mafco 1-0 at Chitowe. n
