North DPP members long for Mutharika

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) members in the North say they are ‘desperately’ waiting for President Peter Mutharika’s thank you rallies which were held in the Southern and Eastern regions.

The members made the calls at a series of meetings which DPP senior officials addressed in Nkhata Bay, Mzimba and Mzuzu during the weekend.

I fear no one: Mutharika

Speaking on Sunday at a meeting presided by Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development Symon Vuwa Kaunda and the party’s vice-president (North) GoodalGondwe at Katoto Secondary School Hall in Mzuzu, DPP regional governor (North) Kenneth Sanga said it is high time that the President visited the region because people want to see him.

“I have been hearing people saying that the President cannot come here in the North because of the demonstrations. This is not true, we are asking you honourable minister to tell the President that he should come and see us here. We are missing him,” he said.

Responding to the call, Kaunda said the President already has plans to visit the North to thank people for voting him back in power during the May 21 Tripartite Elections.

He encouraged party supporters not to live in fear, saying the DPP government is committed to provide security to everyone.

“The President already has plans to come here, no doubt about that. Of course, we are aware of the torture you have gone through because you exercised your right by voting for DPP. Be assured that the President is in full control to provide peace and security to citizens of this country,” said Kaunda.
