He called on Malawians to aspire to develop and work tirelessly to achieve their goals.

Said Chilima: “We must look at development with positivity. We need to recognise that if we are to achieve great things, such achievements must start with smaller achievements which, will eventually lead to greater achievements.”

The Veep said the motivation to achieve greater development should be the desire to leave Malawi a better country than it is now.

Chilima hailed many other individuals who are not in high offices, but are making notable contributions towards the country’s development.

Here he mentioned Chief Chigaru of Blantyre who has done a lot in forest regeneration.

NPC chairperson Richard Mkandawire said the award recognises those who have made or continue to make notable contributions towards achieving the Malawi2063, the country’s long-term development strategy.

In recent weeks, NPC has been presenting awards to individuals who have contributed positively towards the achievement of the Malawi 2063.

Recipients include President Lazarus Chakwera, founding president Hastings Kamuzu Banda, former presidents Joyce Banda and Peter Mutharika and the Speaker of Parliament Catherine Gotani Hara.
